New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick have won their sixth Super Bowl with a win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Patriots won Super Bowl LIII 13 to 3.

The victory defines New England as the greatest franchise in NFL history as the Patriots have won all of its Super Bowls in the free agent era.

The Patriots tie the Pittsburgh Steelers with six Super Bowls — four of the Steelers championships were in the 1970s and 1980s.

In the past 18 years, the Patriots have played in nine Super Bowls — winning 6 and losing 3 — by just 15 points.

Entering Super Bowl LIII, Super Bowl VII was the lowest-scoring title game in NFL history. The Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Redskins with a score of just 14–7.

The biggest performer was Julian Edelman who tortured the Rams all game long. He had 10 catches for 141 yards receiving. Edelman was named the MVP.

Rob Gronkowski had 6 catches for 87 yards.

Brady finished the game 21 of 35 for 262 yards, one interception and no touchdowns. The Rams' Jared Goff was 19 for 38 for 229 yards. Goff was sacked four times by the Pats defense.

First Quarter Consistency

The Patriots proved to be consistent in the first quarter of the Super Bowl under Brady — zero touchdowns.

The Patriots also missed an opportunity to put three on the board when Stephen Gostkowski missed a 46-yard field goal attempt. It was the first field goal missed all season in Mercedes Stadium.

First Half — Second Lowest Scoring

The 3-0 Patriots lead was the second-lowest scoring first half ever — second only to Super Bowl IX when the Pittsburgh Steelers led the Minnesota Vikings 2-0. The Steelers ultimately won the game 16-6.

The Rams generated just 2 first downs for the Rams and just 57 total yards. Los Angeles was ugly.

The  Rams are the 6th team with no 3rd-down conversions in the 1st half of a Super Bowl (previous 5 teams all lost).

Brady was 15-25 with one interception, but missed some easy passes to James White and seemed disconnected from Chris Hogan.

The pick to Cory Littleton was off a deflection and ruined the momentum of the Pats first drive.  The Patriots looked to be heading downfield for the first 1st quarter TD under Brady.

Patriots out-first downed the Rams 12-2.

The Patriots fans were in Atlanta in mass. By some analysis, the Patriots fans outnumbered Ram fans three-to-one. Mike Reiss of ESPN Tweeted on Saturday, “Here at the Super Bowl experience and someone turns to me and says, “Everywhere you look, there’s a Patriots fan.” Has the feeling of a Patriots take over in Atlanta.”

Brady said after the game, "this was like a home game."

Third Quarter

The Rams third-quarter punt set an NFL record — 66-yard punt — 27 yards were after the bounce. John Hekker punted more in the first half than he did all season.

The Rams tied the game 3-3 on a 53-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein with just 2:11 left in the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The Patriots on a seam route to Grownkowski set up the Patriots at the two-yard line and the Patriots scored on the next play Sony Michel scored on a two-yard run behind a huge block by Brown University grad James Devlin. Gostkowski kicked a field goal with 1:12 left on the clock.

Michel finished the game 18 carries for 94 yards.

Standouts:

Matthew Slater, special teams captain for the Patriots, made play after play.

Pats’ Punter Ryan Allen who dropped multiple punts inside the 10-yard line.

Fullback Devlin made some pounding blocks and a tremendous block on the Michel touchdown in the 4th.
