video: Algonquin Battles Westwood for Girls Lacrosse Title

Saturday, June 16, 2012

The Algonquin girls lacrosse team knew it would have its hands full with five-time defending state champion Westwood.

Regardless of whether they knew it or not, the Tomahawks were unable to hold off the relentless Wolverine attack. Led by the sensational play of senior midfielder Laura McHoul, Westwood won its sixth straight state title by a score of 20-6.

It was a bitter end to what was a season of historic accomplishments for Algonquin. The Tomahawks became the first Central Mass squad to ever play for a state championship on the girls side, and knocked off four-time defending Central Mass champion Westborough in the district title game.

This year may be over for coach John Healy and his T-Hawks, but Algonquin will return a solid core of players for next season, led by senior attacker/midfielder Hannah Lindgren.
