Another buzzer-beater win for Bryant

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Bryant erased the sour taste from one of its worst losses of all time with another exhilarating come-from-behind win Saturday.

The Bulldogs continued their trend of utilizing thrilling, buzzer-beating shots, this time with Frankie Dobbs hitting a fade-away jumper as time expired to lift Bryan to a 70-69 win over Saint Francis at DeGol Arena.

Bryant (8-16, 6-6 Northeast Conference) erased a seven-point halftime deficit and escaped with the win Saturday despite coughing up a six-point lead in the closing minutes. The Bulldogs have also won games against Iona and Mount St. Mary’s on last-second shots and sent two other games into overtime courtesy of clutch baskets at the buzzer. On Thursday, they suffered a 91-38 loss at Robert Morris.

Dobbs went the length of the court before hitting his game-winner Saturday. He finished with 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting while Cecil Gresham led the team with 19 points.

Bryant led by six with a minute remaining and again by two with 25 seconds to go before Saint Francis ‘ Umar Shannon hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in the closing seconds. Dobbs had just enough time – seven seconds, to be exact – to deliver the game-winner.

Shannon led Saint Francis (7-16, 5-7 NEC) with 16 points. Bryant will return to action Wednesday at Central Connecticut.
