Assumption’s Haag Looking to Land a Spot In Pro Football

Friday, June 14, 2013

Nick Haag is looking to fulfill his dream of playing professional football.

Considered to be a potential late-round pick in May's NFL Draft, former Assumption defensive end, Nick Haag, was passed up but is still considered to be a solid professional prospect and is trying out for teams, looking for a place to land.

Haag, a native of Grafton, played his high school football at Holy Name in Worcester, where he played quarterback for three years, leading his team to Super Bowl titles in his junior and senior seasons. For his efforts, Haag was named to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette Super Team following his junior and senior seasons. After attending Bridgton Academy for one season, Haag enrolled at the University of Massachusetts, where he had 22 tackles as a defensive player in 11 games during the 2009 season before transferring to Assumption.

Breakout season

In 2011, Haag had a breakout junior season for the Greyhounds, leading the Northeast-10 in sacks with 7.5, including at least one sack in six out of the 10 games that he played in and also ranked sixth on the team with 45 total tackles. Haag was named Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference and a Worcester Area Football First Team All-Star.

This past season, Haag continued to fill up the stat sheet. The former Holy Name star totaled 33 tackles in 10 games played, while adding 3.5 sacks for a total loss of 19 yards. Haag was named Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference and a Worcester Area Football First Team All-Star following the season, marking the second straight year that Haag was awarded that honor.

Haag recently went to workout for the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League and is looking to fulfill his dream of playing professional football.
