Biggest Off Season Ever - Red Sox to Sign Crawford
Thursday, December 09, 2010
According to published reports in the Boston Globe late Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox will sign free agent outfielder Carl Crawford. The price tag is expensive - Carl Crawford has scored a 7-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.
(image_1}The Crawford signing coupled with the traded for first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres makes this may be the biggest off-season in Red Sox history.
Crawford was with the Rays for his career and he is a four-time All-Star who hit .307 with 19 home runs and 90 RBI this past season. However, while his hitting numbers are impressive it is his speed on the bases that makes Crawford a top player in the game.
The combination of Gonzalez and Crawford transforms the Boston team and elevates excitement. Last season was a disappointment for the Red Sox on the field and a bigger business flop with televison and radio audiences off by more than 30%. The two signings may help to push the interest in the Sox.
