Boston Celtics Get “B-” Grade for Off-Season Moves
Thursday, July 30, 2015
Since the end of last season, the Celtics have re-signed Jae Crowder and Jonas Jarebko, signed free agent Amir Johnson, and traded for David Lee and Perry Jones. According to reports, the recent acquistion of Zoran Dragic was specifically to obtain a second-round pick from Miami and Dragic will ultimately be released before the start of the season.
The Celtics draft class includes first-round picks Terry Rozier and R.J. Hunter, and second-round picks Jordan Mickey and Marcus Thornton
Data experts FindtheBest.com's sports site PointAfter gave the Celtics a B- grade on their offseason report.
Here's what PointAfter said about the Celtics offseason:
"This was a genuinely lukewarm offseason for the Boston Celtics. Adding David Lee while only giving up Gerald Wallace is a good move, as is signing Amir Johnson (despite the high price tag), but what's the endgame here?
On paper, the Celtics may be slightly improved (especially if their first-round draft picks pan out), but remaining in the middle of the NBA pack (and the late lottery) is never the best option.
Of course, having Perry Jones gifted to them by the OKC Thunder helped their cause in a big way. In fact, it bumped Boston up a full letter grade."
PointAfter gave offseason grades of "A -" or better to the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and Toronto Raptors.
