Exclusive: Kris Dunn Will Commit To PC

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Score one for Ed Cooley and his staff. A big one!

GoLocalProv.com has learned that Connecticut high school star point guard Kris Dunn will verbally commit to PC tomorrow picking the Friars over the National Champion UConn Huskies.

Dunn is the only top 10 player in ESPNU’s top 100 that has yet to commit to a school but that will change on Wednesday.

Dunn was widely recruited by many of the top programs in the country but appeared to narrow his focus to four Big East schools in PC, UConn, Louisville and Georgetown. And the Friars are the winner.

Dunn has decent size for a point guard at 6’-3” and 180 pounds. He can play both guard positions. Dunn will be attending New London High School and not Wilbraham and Munson this year.

A member of the Connecticut Basketball Club (CBC), Dunn’s stock has risen dramatically following a successful travel circuit.

PC currently has Vincent Council starting at the point. Council is entering his junior year. The Friars also have an undersized incoming freshman in 5’-8” Kiwi Gardner from Westwind Prep Academy in Phoeniz, Arizona. Gardner possesses cat-like quickness who can score from anywhere on the floor.

Dunn is a player who could see significant minutes off the bench as a freshman in 2012-2013. He could grab the starting point guard spot as a sophomore provided he isn’t playing off the ball. The specter of ample playing time right away may have been what tipped the scales for Providence over the other Big East powers they were competing with.

One other important PC recruiting note: the Friars are also said to be close to re-landing Ricky Ledo. In fact, Ledo could also announce his intentions to attend PC soon following up on Dunn’s announcement tomorrow.

The 6’-5” swingman verbaled to PC when Keno Davis was the head coach but quickly recanted that commitment placing himself back on the market.

Ledo is ranked as Rivals #1 shooting guard in the class of 2012 and the 8th best senior in the country. He has all of the nation’s top programs after him. Ledo will be playing at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, MA this winter.
