Brown Shoots Down Sacred Heart 81-67 In Home Opener

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Last season, the Brown men’s basketball team ran its offense from the inside out. The ball would funnel through center Matt Mullery in the low post first before anyone else would touch the ball. This year, it’s different.

The 2010-2011 Brown University men’s basketball team is built around good perimeter shooters. In their home opener Saturday night, we saw what they were capable of.

The Bears shot 63% from the field, 50% from three and 83% from the free throw line in an 81-67 win over Sacred Heart at the Pizzatola Sports Center.

Senior captains Peter Sullivan and Adrian Williams came up big for Brown. Sullivan scored a season-high 26 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in the win. Williams came off the bench and provided instant offense again like he did in the team’s season-opening upset of Fordham. Williams went 4-7 from three point range scoring 12 as the Bears cruised to the easy victory.

“Peter was great and Adrian and Tyler (Ponticelli – 9 pts) off the bench were big for us,” said Brown coach Jesse Agel. “I thought Tuck (Tucker Halpern – 14 pts) was big as well,” he said.

With the win, the Bears improved to 2-1 on the season. They host St. Francis Wednesday afternoon at 4pm at the Pizz.
