Bulldogs remain winless on the road

Monday, November 29, 2010

The Bulldogs will have to wait until Thursday for another shot at their first road win of the season.

C.J. McCollum scored a game-high 27 points Sunday and Gabe Knutson added 22 in a dominant performance in the paint as Lehigh crushed Bryant University, 88-68, at the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa.

Playing away from its home court at the Chace Athletic Center for the first time in two weeks, Bryant dropped to 1-5 overall despite a solid effort by freshman forward Alex Francis, who finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs secured their only win of the season in Cleveland two weeks ago when they beat Iona in the World Vision Basketball Classic on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Raphael Jordan. The game took place on a neutral court, so Bryant is still winless on the road as it prepares for Thursday’s game at Fairleigh Dickinson.

McCollum remained red-hot for the Mountain Hawks (3-3) following a tremendous 42-point effort in a loss at Kent State on Friday. The sophomore guard shot 8-of-15 from the floor and also had seven rebounds and two steals. Knutson shot 10-of-12 from the floor and added eight rebounds.

Four players reached double figures for Bryant, including freshman guard Corey Maynard with 14 points, sophomore Frankie Dobbs with 12 on 4-of-5 shooting and Ukrainian sophomore Vladvslav Kondratyev with 13 points off the bench. (photo Corey Maynard)

The game remained close through most of the first half until Lehigh closed on a 7-0 to take a 42-35 lead at the break. The Bulldogs closed to within three points early in the second half, but the Mountain Hawks responded with a 14-2 run to break the game open. Lehigh shot 58 percent in the second half.
