Celtics cruise to 10th consecutive win

While Shaquille O’Neal sat out for the second night in a row to rest his sore right calf, Boston rolled to its 10th consecutive win Saturday, crushing the Charlotte Bobcats, 93-62, at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
Rookie Semih Erden started in place of O’Neal, but it didn’t matter much as the Celtics (19-4) began pulling away in the second and third quarters before turning Saturday’s game into an absolute laugher.
Glen Davis and Ray Allen scored 16 points apiece and Kevin Garnett chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Boston limited the Bobcats to 34 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers. Charlotte has lost two in a row and is now 8-15 overall while the surging Celtics remained 4 ½ games of the red-hot New York Knicks, who have won seven consecutive games.
Erden finished with 10 points in Saturday’s start and also blocked four shots. The Bobcats got little out of Gerald Wallace, who shot a miserable 2-of-15, and even less from their bench, which added only 21 points due to the absence of injured sixth man Tyrus Thomas. D.J. Augustin added to the carnage by missing all eight of his field-goal attempts.
The Bobcats were only two minutes away from their lowest scoring output in franchise history, a record they ironically set last year with 59 points in a loss to Boston. Charlotte has lost five in a row to the Celtics. Boston will return to the floor Wednesday at New York to face the Knicks in search of its 11th consecutive win.
