GoLocal Worcester has identified eight Major League Baseball players and personnel from the Central Massachusetts area that are in Florida or Arizona for Spring Training.
“It’s great. We’re playing baseball every day and we are getting ready to ramp up. It’s almost time to play some games, so everything is great out here. It’s never been better,” said Auburn’s Tyler Beede, the 2014 first round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants.
Beede is currently in Scottsdale with the Giants and is experiencing his first Spring Training as a pro. He is spending his days with bullpen sessions and will start doing live batting practice this Friday.
The Giants begin playing games on March 18. “Things are getting going quick and we’re learning a lot, but we’re having fun out here,” said Beede.
Worcester native Brian Abraham is taking part in the Boston Red Sox spring training under a different title this season. Before this year, Abraham served as the team’s bullpen catcher and worked in Advanced Scouting. Over this past offseason, Abraham was promoted to Assistant Director of Player Development.
“Spring Training is going great. It’s a little different for me than it has been in the past now that I’m focused on the minor league side of things. We have about 150 minor leaguers reporting to camp and we will start full workouts next week,” said Abraham. “We are gearing up to get ready to go for games to start next week. It’s a lot of organizing, and going over fundamentals and organizational philosophies, and getting guys ready to prepare for the season.”
