Central Mass. Gearing Up for Spring High School Playoffs

The Central Mass. boys lacrosse playoffs will get underway next week.

The Central Mass high school baseball and boys lacrosse playoffs are set to kick off next week. The Central Mass baseball seeding will be released by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association on Tuesday, May 28, with the preliminary and first round games starting no earlier than Thursday, May 30.  The Central Mass lacrosse seeds will be released Friday, May 24, with first round games of that tournament to begin on Sunday, May, 26. The Central Mass. District Finals for boys lacrosse will take place between June 7-9 and will be held at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

Outdoor track

The MIAA Central/West Division I/II championships in outdoor track will take place on Saturday. The Division I championships for boys and girls will be held at Fitchburg State University, while the Division II championships for boys and girls will be held at Westfield State University.

Tennis

Some of the playoff tournaments, however, have already kicked off. In boys tennis, St. John's High School is guaranteed both the singles and doubles titles for Central Mass. Junior Wes Arnold and senior captain David Hennessy of St. John's defeated John Lindsay and Drew Brown of Shrewsbury High School this past week in the doubles final 6-3, 6-4. The singles final will be held this Saturday at St. John's at 9 a.m. and will feature Chris Ellis and Dylan Fletcher, two of St. John's senior captains.

Volleyball

The MIAA Boys Volleyball Central Division I tournament is ready to kick off today, with the championship slated for June 4. Milford (17-1), Medfield (16-2), and Wachusett (16-2) High Schools were named the top three seeds for the tournament, getting a bye into the quarterfinals which will be played Wednesday, May 29.
