Champion’s 17 Points Leads Holy Cross Past Colgate 56-50

“It is a win we had to get, your at home, you have to win that kind of game and we did. You know they are 4-1 on the road coming in so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy," said Holy Cross head coach Bill Carmody.
The win moves Holy Cross to 6-5 in the Patriot League and 12-12 overall. Colgate drops to 7-17 overall and 5-6 in the Patriot League.
Holy Cross Holds on
After trailing 29-24 at the half, Colgate held a 40-39 lead with 8:01 to play in the game.
From that point, the Crusaders took control of the game after an Anthony Thompson layup sparked a 12-3 run to put the Crusaders up 51-43 with 3:55 left to go.
Colgate would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
The Crusaders only shot 38% from the field in the game, but held Colgate to just 33% shooting from the field.
Holy Cross was also helped by forcing Colgate into 19 turnovers leading to 15 points.

Champion’s 17 points came on 5 of 10 shooting from the field and 6 of 9 from the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Matt Husek added 11 points for Holy Cross.

Holy Cross returns to action on Monday, February 6 when they visit Bucknell.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
