Hahn Nets 22 Points, Crusaders Crush Albany 74-57

The Holy Cross Crusaders men's basketball team (4-1) defeated the (2-4) Albany Great Danes 74-57 on Wednesday night in Albany. The win improves the Crusaders record to 4-1 on the season, and is a good bounce back win after losing to Syracuse in their previous game.

Albany held an 18-16 lead with ten minutes left in the first half but over the next three minutes, the Crusaders would go on a 16-3 run to get their first double-digit lead in the game and from there they would not look back. 

Holy Cross was led by freshman, Mitchell Hahn who netted a career high 22 points, knocking down all six of his shots that he took from beyond the arc. Sophomore, Anthony Thompson followed up with 15 points of his own, going five for five from three-point land. 

Sam Rowley led the Great Danes with 14 points in the loss. 

Holy Cross continues their road trip as they visit Sacred Heart on Saturday, December 6. Tip off is set for 3:30 p.m.

Points Off turnovers

One of the key's to this victory for Holy Cross was the points off turnovers statistic. Albany turned the ball over 18 times in the game and the Crusaders got 26 points off of those turnovers. 

Point guard Justin Burrell led Holy Cross in steals with four. 

Albany got 17 turnovers from Holy Cross but only managed to score 14 points.

Malcolm Miller

Malcolm Miller did not lead the Crusaders in scoring in this game however he had a solid game.

Miller had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals in 33 minutes of playing time for Holy Cross. 

This comes after the Syracuse game where Miller led the Crusaders with 18 points in the loss.

Three-Point Shooting

Sophomore Anthony Thompson went five for five and freshman Mitchell Hahn went six for six from beyond the arc  against Albany. Overall, the Crusaders hit 13 of 19 shots from three-point land, shooting an incredible 68% for the game. 

Holy Cross shot 86% percent from beyond the arc in the second half while shooting just 53% from the field 

In fact, the Crusaders free throw numbers and three-point field goal numbers are identical.

Mitchell Hahn

Freshman Mitchell Hahn came off the bench and netted a career high 22 points in 20 minutes of play time. Hahn also added four rebounds and a blocked shot to his stat line. 

Hahn went an impressive six for six from beyond the three point arc and made eight of his nine shots overall. 

A more then solid performance from Hahn in this game. Holy Cross will be hoping that he can build on it.

Victory on the road

The Crusaders went into Albany and came out with a big 74-57 victory against an NCAA Tournament caliber team. 

Albany is an America East power and has been over the last couple of seasons. Last season, the Great Danes made it to the big dance and gave Florida a run for their money in the first round. 

This was a solid road win for Holy Cross. 

Sacred Heart is up next on Saturday, December 6.
