Danny Willett is The 2016 Masters Champion after shooting a bogey free 67 in the final round of the tournament on Sunday. Willett is the first Englishman to win The Masters since Nick Faldo did it in 1996.
Coincidentally, they both got some help.
Willett was helped by a Jordan Spieth quadruple bogey on the iconic par 3 12th hole, while Willett went on to shoot his 67. Spieth held a 5 shot lead entering the back 9 of the tournament with birdies on 4 straight holes.
In 1996, Faldo was helped by a Greg Norman collapse, he lost a 6 shot lead, while Faldo went on to shoot 67 in the final round.
Danny Willett
Willett is the 12th ranked golfer in the world, turning pro in 2008 and earning his European Tour card in 2009 after playing his college golf at Jacksonville State University.
His first professional win came in 2012 at the BMW International Open, while his best finish in the United States was a third place finish at the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship.
Prior to The Masters, his best finish in a major was 6th at last year's British Open at St. Andrews.
A Masters win gets Willett a lifetime exemption to the tournament as well as a lifetime invite to the prestigious champions dinner and of course a green jacket.
