Farrell Suspended, Red Sox Roll Twins 9-2
Wednesday, June 28, 2017
Red Sox manager John Farrell was suspended for the game following an incident during Saturday’s game in which he was thrown out after arguing with umpires.
The Red Sox improve to 43-34 on the season and are in sole possession of first place in the AL East.
Red Sox Roll
The Red Sox jumped on the Twins early when Christian Vazquez hit a two run home run to center field in the second inning to give Boston a 2-0 lead.
Vazquez’s home run was his first in over a year.
Then there was a rain delay that lasted just over an hour.
When the game resumed at 10 p.m. the Red Sox offense stayed hot.
The Red Sox would add a run in the third on a throwing error by Minnesota’s Buxton to take a 3-0 lead.
Boston would continue their offensive onslaught, scoring two runs in the fourth and one run in the 5th to take a 6-1 lead over the Twins.
Boston’s Chris Young would cap off the scoring the sixth inning with a three run home run to give the Red Sox a 9-1 lead.
They would go on to win the game 9-2.
Series Continues
The Red Sox and Twins will play the third game of the four game series on Wednesday, June 28 at 7:10 p.m.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Minnesota’s Adalberto Mejía.
