Cage Fight: First Professional Sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts Event Hits RI
Friday, September 17, 2010
There will be blood.
“First Blood” is hitting New England this Friday night as Rhode Island’s first-ever professional-sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts show. The fans are going to get exactly what they want with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., (CES) main event.
The fighters
Headlining is Providence’s own lightweight Mike “The Beast” Campbell (8-2) vs. undefeated Magno Almeida (4-0) of Newport, CA, who now fights out of Massachusetts. All fights at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln will feature three, five-minute rounds and now all ages can see the drama (as long as minors are accompanied by an adult).
There is going to be some fast-action fighting in the co-feature with heavyweight Lee Beane against Parker Porter in a venue infused with adrenaline. Saul Almeida (7-0) faces Pete Jeffry (3-5) from Smithfield on the undercard. Also fighting is Cranston’s Luis “Rock Star” Felix (4-5) vs. Joe Dechaves (3-2), East Greenwich’s Matt Santos (2-7) vs. Steve Stengel (4-7), and many others ready to crawl into the cage and go to war. Seriously, Providence, you are going to want to be there – this is the lifeblood of fighting.
Up from underground
Fans are going to get a taste of this elite, full-contact combat sport and witness some real history being made. With an underground past, the UFC’s legitimization occurred hand-in-hand with a restructuring of rules that turned the “fight to the death” into a recognized sport with some of the most well-conditioned athletes in the world.
Friday’s event is sure to please as the purest form of one-on-one competition. With multiple professional debuts and intense matchups, this first professional cage fight is a must-see. Tickets for “First Blood” are now on sale starting at $50 and can be purchased by calling 724-2253 or online at CES Boxing’s Web site. Limited standing-room tickets are also available for $25 through the Twin River box office at 723-3200.
