Former Holy Cross Coach Named Head Coach of Worcester Hydra

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

Elvis Comrie has been named head coach of the Worcester Hydra FC, entering its first season as a member of the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League in 2012. After Comrie spent 18 years as head men’s soccer coach at the College of the Holy Cross leading the Crusaders to five regular season Patriot League championships, Hydra is pleased to have him on board. Comrie has had a successful career as both a collegiate coach and professional player while acquiring notable accomplishments along the way.

As a player, he has triumphed while winning championships during his enrollment at the University of Connecticut, as well as being inducted into the Connecticut Hall of Fame in 2005. Internationally, he played in France and was a member of the U.S. National Team. Comrie was named Patriot League Coach of the Year four times, and his 125 career wins are the most ever in the history of the men’s soccer program.

“His passion for the game is unmatched and contagious. His tactical knowledge and understanding of soccer is as deep as it is vast and his ability to recruit the best players will help our club field the best roster possible,” said Dmitri Strunkin, Hydra managing director.

The Hydra will host its second tryout on Saturday, March 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Alumni Field located at Becker College (Leicester campus). Players must register for the tryout at http://www.HydraFC.com.

The inaugural season kicks off on Saturday, May 5 against the Seacoast United Phantoms at 7 p.m. at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium. Season tickets are available at http://www.HydraFC.com.
