Holy Cross’ Comeback Falls Short, Edged 55-53 by Maine
Thursday, December 08, 2016
Holy Cross falls to 3-6 on the season, while the Black Bears improve to 3-6 overall.
Come Back Falls Short
The Crusaders trailed 50-39 late in the second half before going on a 13-4 run capped off by a three from Karl Charles to cut their deficit to two, 54-52, with 1:06 to play in the game.
After blocking a shot on the defensive side of the ball, Charles missed a layup that would have tied the game and Maine’s Andrew Fleming knocked down 1 of 2 free throws with 17.1 seconds left to give the Black Bears a three-point lead.
Holy Cross would have a chance to tie the game, however, Malachi Alexander air-balled a three. The Crusaders only shot 18% from beyond the arc in the game.
With 2.6 seconds left, Robert Champion intentionally missed a free throw but the ball went out of bounds.
The Leaders
Holy Cross was led by Alexander who netted 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field while also grabbing six rebounds.
Robert Champion added 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
