Holy Cross Dominated on Boards, Fall 52-47 to Army
Thursday, February 16, 2017
The Crusaders were dominated on the boards, losing the battle 41-23.
“Real disappointing. I thought they outplayed us the entire night, controlled the game. They killed us on the boards and they are not a big team, but they got so many second shots,” said Holy Cross Head Coach Bill Carmody.
Holy Cross drops to 7-8 in the Patriot League and 13-15 overall, while Army improves to 4-11 in the Patriot League and 10-17 overall.
Holy Cross Falls Short
Trailing 32-25 at the half, Holy Cross’ Robert Champion opened the second half by scoring eight straight points to put the Crusaders ahead 33-32 early in the second half.
The Black Knights then would go on a 9-3 run to grab a 41-36 lead with 7:37 remaining.
Army would extend their lead to 49-41 with 1:35 left to play before Holy Cross would go on a 6-0 run to cut it to 49-47 with 34 seconds left.
The black Knights would convert three of four free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
The Leaders
Robert Champion was the only Holy Cross player to reach double figures, scoring 21 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field.
Malachi Alexander followed up with 8 points on 3 of 7 shooting from the field while grabbing five rebounds.
