Holy Cross Football Falls to Monmouth 44-27 in 1st Round of NCAA Tournament

The Crusaders finish the season with a record of 7-6, while Monmouth advances to take on #2 James Madison.
Holy Cross Falls to Monmouth
The Hawks got on the board with just over six minutes left in the first quarter when Lonnie Moore broke a 17-yard touchdown run to give Monmouth a 7-0 lead after an extra point by Matt Mosquera sailed through the uprights.
After the Hawks added a field goal early in the second quarter to go ups 10–0, they would add to their lead when Terrance Green hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Monmouth quarterback Kenji Bahar to put the Hawks up 17-0.
Monmouth would go up 23-0 on a 68-yard touchdown run by Pete Guerriero with 7:18 left to play in the half.
The Crusaders would get on the board with 4:26 left in the half when Derek Mountain caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Matt Considine to make the score 23-7.
However, Monmouth would go into the half with a 26-7 lead after a field goal in the final seconds.
The Crusaders would cut Monmouth’s lead to 26-13 when Ayir Asante hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Considine with 11:04 left in the third quarter.
However, that is as close as Holy Cross would get.
Monmouth would add two more touchdowns and a field goal to take the 44-27 win.
