Holy Cross Football Hosts Bucknell at Fitton Field on Saturday

Saturday, October 08, 2016

The Holy Cross Crusaders (2-3, 1-0 PL) return home on Saturday to host (1-3) Bucknell at Fitton Field at 1 p.m. Holy Cross is currently in first place in the Patriot League after beating Lafayette 38-28 last week.

“Bucknell has consistently had one of the top defenses in the league for several years. They have shown the ability to run the ball very effectively this year, as well as to go deep with their play-action pass game. We expect a big challenge this week in our quest to improve to 2-0 in the Patriot League," said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore.

Holy Cross leads the season series over Bucknell 21-11.

Bucknell

The Bison come in on a three game losing streak, most recently losing to the Virginia Military Institute in triple overtime last week.

Bucknell is led on offense by junior quarterback Matt Muh, who has completed 51 of 92 passes for 595 yards and four touchdowns. Bucknell averages 19 points and 208 passing yards per game

His weapons included junior tailback Joey DeFloria who has rushed for 436 yards and five touchdowns on 89 carries, and senior wide receiver Will Carter who has 24 catches for 312 yards and three touchdowns.

On defense, Ben Richard leads Bucknell with 41 tackles, two sacks and six tackles for loss so far this season.

Holy Cross

The Holy Cross offense averages 31 points and 284 passing yards per game to go along with 148.8 rushing yards per game.

Sophomore wide receiver Richie DeNicola leads the Crusaders with 36 catches for 361 yards and three touchdowns, while senior receiver Jake Wieczorek ranks second with 34 catches for 295 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense, junior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the Crusaders with 48 tackles and five tackles for loss, while safety Luke Ford has a fumble recovery and 36 tackles.

Defensive end Ryan Smith has three sacks and one fumble recovery on the season.

Looking Ahead

After the game against Bucknell, the Crusaders stay home to face Ivy League power Harvard on October 15. Kick off for that game is at 1 p.m.
