Holy Cross Football Names 2017 Team Captains
Wednesday, April 12, 2017
The announcement was made by head coach Tom Gilmore.
The Captains
McBeath started all 11 games for the Crusaders at inside linebacker last season, and was named first team All-Patriot League. He led the team with 106 total tackles, including 91 solo stops, one quarterback sack and eight tackles for loss.
He also recorded one forced fumble, one pass breakup and four quarterback hurries. He finished the season ranked first in the Patriot League and 21st in the nation in total tackles.
Murray started all 11 of Holy Cross’ games at center last year, earning second team All-Patriot League honors. He was the leader of an offensive line which paved the way for the Crusaders to average 356.0 total yards, 103.8 rushing yards and 23.5 points per game on the year.
Pujals was previously a captain during the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons. He becomes the first player in school history to serve as a team captain for four seasons.
Pujals missed most of the 2016 season because of injury, and returns to the team as a fifth-year senior. He earned first team All-Patriot League honors in 2015, after being a second team All-Patriot League selection in 2014.
He enters the 2017 season ranked second all-time at Holy Cross in career completions (833), pass attempts (1,366) and yards of total offense (10,524); third in passing yards (8,919), completion percentage (61.0 percent) and touchdowns responsible for (84); and fourth in touchdown passes (67), pass efficiency rating (126.7) and 300-yard games (nine).
