Holy Cross Football Set to Host New England Rival Brown
Saturday, October 10, 2015
Brown and Holy Cross have played 59 previous times with Holy Cross leading the series 32-24-3, dating back to 1898. However, the last time the Crusaders beat Brown was in 2010 when they won 17-13.
“Brown always has a well-coached, physical team that plays hard every week. After a slow start this season, they have made a number of significant improvements. This game plays out like a rivalry, in that it is always a very closely contested game that usually comes down to the last couple of minutes," said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore.
What Holy Cross Needs to do to Win
Holy Cross is coming off their biggest victory, as far as margin, since 2007, beating Albany 37-0 last weekend.
The Crusaders will look to build on a dominant defensive performance where they only allowed 203 total yards of offense and recovered a fumble which led to a touchdown. The Crusader defense also did a nice job of getting off the field on third down, allowing Albany only five third down conversions of 16.
The defense will face a big test this week going up against Brown quarterback Marcus Fuller and a potent Brown offense. Fuller threw for 438 yards last week, leading the Bears to a win over the University of Rhode Island. Fuller threw four touchdown passes in the game.
Offensively, Crusaders quarterback Peter Pujals will need to be weary of the Brown secondary. Last week Brown came away with three interceptions, including one that sealed the game.
Last week, Holy Cross had a real balanced attack, passing for 186 yards and rushing for 163 while picking up 12 of their 20 first downs on the ground, and no turnovers.
If the Crusaders can do something similar this week, they will have a chance to win the game.
With a Win
With a win in this game, the Crusaders would go over .500 for the season and would have a two game winning streak as they head to Fordham next week.
