It’s Official - Ledo Commits To PC!

Monday, September 05, 2011

It’s official! Ricky Ledo has publicly pledged his allegiance to Ed Cooley and the Providence College men’s basketball program.

As reported first here on GoLocalProv.com, Ledo had planned on verbally committing to PC at a press conference last Thursday at a local sports bar in Providence. However, that press conference was called off two days before it was to take place leading to much speculation as to why that was the case. Whatever the reason, Ledo finally decided that the time was right to tell Cooley that he wants to be a Friar.

GoLocalProv.com was unable to reach Ledo Monday but the star recruit told ESPN.com that he fully intends to be a Friar. “I grew up in Providence and it feels like the perfect fit,” he said. “I trust coach Cooley. He’s one of the reasons that Providence can get back on top.”

As we also reported here last week, Ledo hasn’t ruled out the possibility of enrolling at PC for the second semester this year as opposed to waiting until the fall of 2012. That may very well depend upon the scores he receives on standardized tests he plans on taking this fall.

While many feel that it would be better to see Ledo begin his career in the fall of 2012, starting it in late December of this year could be beneficial for both him and the program.

Ledo’s talents are such that he could very well decide to turn pro before his college playing days are over with. If that’s the case, wouldn’t it be better to have his services for 1 ½ or 2 ½ seasons as opposed to only 1 or 2?

Ledo’s commitment to PC doesn’t become official until he signs a letter of intent in a couple of months. Still, his addition to the verbal commitment of talented New London, CT guard Kris Dunn gives Cooley and the Friars one of the best recruiting classes not only in the Big East, but in the entire country.

While Cooley and his staff continue to beat the bushes for a big man for next season, it is possible that this may be the extent of his recruiting class for 2012-2013. If that’s the case, it would be hard for all Friar fans not to be thrilled with the results.
