Johnson Strikes Out 8 in Red Sox 6-0 Win Over Mariners
Sunday, May 28, 2017
Johnson, 26, is the first Red Sox pitcher to throw a shutout in his first Fenway start since Pedro Martinez did it on April 11, 1998.
Johnson struck out 8 batters en route to his second win of the season.
He was optioned back to Pawtucket after the game with David Price returning.
Overall, The Red Sox have now won six straight games and improve to 27-21 on the season.
Red Sox Capitalize on Seattle Mistakes
The Red Sox had two batters hit by pitches in the first inning and two other batters walked in the inning.
That set up RBI singles from Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi and Sandy Leon to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.
Bradley Jr. would hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to increase the Red Sox lead to 5-0 before they would add another run in the 8th to give them their winning margin.
Series Continues
The Red Sox and Mariners wrap up their series on Sunday, May 28 at 1:35 p.m.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Seattle’s Christian Bergman.
