Le Sann’s Career-High 13 Points Sparks Holy Cross Comeback Win Over Army

Freshman Clayton Le Sann scored a career-high 13 points in nine minutes of action to help Holy Cross overcome a 17 point deficit and beat Army 85-76 on Wednesday night in West Point, New York. 

So far in his freshman season, Le Sann has averaged a total of four minutes per game and has scored a total of four points on the entire year, all of those coming in the second game of the season against Syracuse. In that game he went 2 of 3 from the field, against Army he was 5 of 6 from the field, including 3 of 4 from three. 

The win improves Holy Cross to 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the Patriot League. 

The Comeback 

Holy Cross trailed by 17, 56-39 with 16:56 left in the game before Le Sann scored 13 straight points to help the Crusaders to a 19-6 run to get them back in the game. 

With six minutes left, Holy Cross trailed 70-66 before scoring ten straight points, taking the lead for good on back to back three-pointers by Karl Charles. 

Malachi Alexander scored a key basket to put the Crusaders up 78-72 lead with 1:21 left to play, before the Crusaders would convert five of their last eight free throws to hold on for the win. 

Holy Cross shot 57% from the field and 45% from three in the game. 

The comeback was the biggest comeback by Holy Cross since 2009 when ironically enough rallied from a 17 point deficit to beat Army on February 11. 

Leading the Way 

Charles led the Crusaders with 24 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field, while Alexander contributed 18 points and six rebounds in the win. 

Next up 

The Crusaders return to action on Monday, January 23 when they host American at the Hart Center. 

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
