MLB’s Colabello Headlines Assumption Hall of Fame Class

The Assumption College Department of Athletics held its annual hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, November 6th in the Hagan Campus Center as part of Homecoming Weekend. 

This year's inductees were Rita Castagna, Justin Cecil, Chris Colabello, John Driscoll and Lauren Matysiak. 

About the Nominees

Rita Castagna served as the director of athletics from 1988-2003 while also serving as the head coach for a number of other programs at Assumption. Castagna's longest tenure was a 14 year stretch as the women's basketball head coach where she led the team to 133 wins and advanced tot he Northeast 10 Tournament six times. 

Justin Cecil is a 1996 graduate of the men's lacrosse program and ended his career as the program's all-time leading points and goal scorer. Cecil is still tied for the point scoring record to this day. 

Chris Colabello is a 2005 graduate  of the baseball program and is the first Assumption player to appear in a Major League Baseball game, when he appeared for the Minnesota Twins in 2013. Colabello won the International league Player-of-the-year and Rookie-of-the-year in AAA and was the starting first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays during their run to the American League Championship Series. 

John Driscoll is a 1967 alumni and was a member of the men's basketball program, helping the Hounds advance to four straight NCAA Regionals and won one regional title. Driscoll ended his career with 645 points. 

Lauren Matysiak is a 2008 graduate and four year starting goalie for the women's soccer program and is one of the top female athletes in Assumption history. Matysiak helped Assumption to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament including two straight appearances in the regional final.
