NEW: Bill Carmody Named Holy Cross Basketball Head Coach

Friday, March 20, 2015

Bill Carmody

Holy Cross has announced that Bill Carmody has been named Head Coach of the men's basketball team. Carmody becomes the 17th head coach in the history of the program and has 32 years of division one coaching experience, 17 of which come as a head coach.

"I am excited about the opportunity to become the head coach at Holy Cross, and I look forward to bringing the program back to the top of the Patriot League," Carmody said.

Carmody's Resume

During the 2014-2015 season, Carmody serves as special assistant/advisor to the head coach at Fairfield University. Prior to that, Carmody spent 13 seasons at Northwestern as the head coach and led the Wildcats to 192 wins, the second most victories in school history.

"He is a proven winner and his wealth of experience as a head coach at other rigorous academic institutions makes him an outstanding fit for our program and community.

Carmody is a native of Spring Lake, N.J. and graduated from Union in 1975 with a bachelors degree in history. As a player, Carmody led Union to a 59-11 record in three seasons as a starter.

National Respect

Carmody has been nationally recognized as one of the top coaches in the college game and was named top offensive coach in college basketball by Sports Illustrated.

"Bill Carmody is one of the brightest basketball minds in the country. When it comes to teaching the game of basketball, there are few in his class. The Crusaders are certainly in good hands with Bill in Charge," said Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan.

Holy Cross last season

Last season, Holy Cross went 14-16 overall and 8-10 conference making it to the quarterfinals of the Patriot League tournament before losing to Bucknell 90-83 in Overtime.

The New Era Begins

Bill Carmody will be introduced at a press conference on Monday, March 23 at 11 a.m. from the Hart Center. The press conference will stream live on GoHolyCross.com
