NEW: State Champion Mahar Basketball Team Visits State House

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

The Mahar basketball team at the State House today.

It's been over two months since the Mahar basketball team cut down the nets at the DCU Center, but the Senators are still enjoying the perks of being a state champion.

State Representative Denise Andrews, along with Senators Stephen Brewer and Stanley Rosenberg welcomed the Division II MIAA State Basketball Champions today, and gave them a full tour of the State House. The team was also granted a private viewing of the Governor's office, and lunch in the House Member's Lobby.

"I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with these outstanding gentlemen," Rep. Andrews said. "We had a chance to sit in the Senate Chamber, learning from Senator Rosenberg and were challenged by him on our role and contributions to public service… The preparation and accomplishments to become state champions clearly prepared these young people to continue to make a positive difference in our communities."

Mahar captured the state championship in a thrilling 45-41 victory over Brighton in Worcester this past March.
