NEW: Worcester Soccer Club Makes First Ever Signing
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Worcester's Hydra FC does not begin competition in the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League (PDL) until May, but signed goalkeeper Michael Eade today with the hopes of building around a solid defense.
““I am very happy to announce that we’ve signed Michael Eade,” Hydra general manager Craig Scriven said. “He becomes part of our club’s history as Worcester Hydra’s first signing. As with every successful soccer team, you must start at the back, and in Michael we have a very competent and experienced goalkeeper who has played in big games.”
Eade comes to the Hydra after a wildly successful college career at Park University in Parkville, Missouri. During his career at the NAIA institution, Eade posted 16 shutouts, including a shutout over eventual NAIA National Champion Lindsey Wilson back in 2009. He also had a stellar career save percentage of .943 and helped the Pirates win two national tournament games.
Eade earned the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2008 for his 68 saves in 17 games. Prior to his time at Park, Eade played professionally for both Tottenham Hotspur Academy and Luton Town FC Youth Training Scheme in England. He also has a background in coaching, serving as an assistant on the women’s soccer team at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.
Hydra FC will begin play in the PDL when they battle the Seacoast United Phantoms on May 5th at 7 p.m. inside Foley Stadium.
