NFL sets Patriots’ pre-season opponents

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

It's just the pre-season, but it's a start.

The National Football League has announced its' 65-game 2014 pre-season schedule, which will kick-off Sunday, August 3rd with the NFL Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH (Buffalo vs. New York Giants). Exact dates for all games have not yet been set, but the New England Patriots will play a schedule that looks like they belong in the NFC East.

Week One (August 7-10) will have New England travel to play the Washington Redskins for the first pre-season game. Week Two and Three will be back-to-back home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, against Philadelphia (August 14-18) and Carolina (August 21-24). Exact dates won't be known until television coverage and training camp schedules are set - and the possibility exists for camp scrimmages and joint practices in Foxboro with either (or both) the Eagles and/or Panthers.

The final week of the pre-season will feature the Patriots playing at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants on August 28th. This will be the 10th consecutive year for the Patriots and Giants to end the pre-season by facing each other.

The full regular-season schedule should be released in the next two weeks, and this year the Patriots will host the Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Raiders, Broncos, Bears, Lions, and Bengals at Gillette. The Pats will play road games at the Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Chiefs, Chargers, Packers, Vikings, and Colts.
