No Tom Brady, then Jimmy Garoppolo goes down, and a little known rookie Quarterback takes over and helps the Patriots hold on.
Rookie Jacoby Brissett took over under center and completed 6 of 9 passes for 92-yards in just over one half of action -- a QB rating of 100.2. He is a third round pick from North Carolina State.
The New England Patriots (2-0) defeated the (0-2) Miami Dolphins 31-24, at Gillette Stadium. How long Garappolo is out is unknown.
Garoppolo suffered a shoulder injury when he was hit by Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso after he completed a pass to Malcolm Mitchell with four minutes left in the first half he did not return.
According to MassLive, X-Rays on Garoppolo's shoulder came back negative, but in the post game press conference Head Coach Bill Belichick provided few insighs into the future.
Garoppolo had completed 18 of 27 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns before leaving.
As of now, Brissett would start the Patriots next game on Thursday night against Houston. It is highly unlikely Garappolo can go. The bigger question is who do the Patriots bring in to be the back-up.
Patriots Hold on
With Garoppolo out, the Miami Dolphins scored 21 straight points to pull within a touchdown, 31-24, after a Kenyon Drake 7-yard touchdown run and an Andrew Franks extra point with six minutes to play.
The Patriots got the ball back with third string quarterback Jacoby Brissett under center and would drive to the Miami 21-yard line with 1:09 to play.
New England would set up for a field goal attempt to put the game away, kicker Stephen Gostkowski would miss the 39 yard attempt, giving the Dolphins life.
Miami took over the ball with 1:00 to play from their own 29-yard line with no time outs left and needing a touchdown.
Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill drove the Dolphins to the New England 29-yard line with 15 seconds to play.
On fourth and five, Tannehill fired to the corner of the endzone where his pass was intercepted by Duran Harmon.
The interception would be the Dolphins fourth turnover of the game, and would seal the Patriots win.

The Patriots offense got off to a hot start in the game, scoring touchdowns on each of their first three possessions.
In the first possession Garoppolo hit Danny Amendola over the middle for a 12-yard touchdown pass to put the Patriots up 7-0 following a Gostkowski extra point.
After the Patriots defense forced a Miami punt, Garoppolo found tight end Martellus Bennett over the middle on a 20 yard touchdown pass to put the Patriots up 14-0 after a Gostkowski extra point. The touchdown was Bennett’s first as a Patriot.
Garoppolo and Amendola would connect for a touchdown a second time with 13:14 left in the second quarter to give the Patriots a 21-0 lead after a Gostkowski extra point was good.
New England would add a field goal to take a 24-3 lead into the locker room at half time, and LeGarrette Blount would add a touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Patriots up 31-3 with 8:44 left in the third quarter.
