PC Downs Sacred Heart 84-76: #5 Syracuse Up Next

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

The weather in Providence has been downright cold over the past few weeks, but the play of Marshon Brooks has been red hot. The Friars senior forward scored 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds Tuesday night to help PC hold off a pesky Sacred Heart team 84-76.

Brooks has been in a zone all season long for the Friars, but particularly over the last 7 games. His 25 points last night mark the lowest total he has scored in any of those seven contests.

This game wasn’t as easy as many expected it to be. Sacred Heart (4-8) hung around all night long and trailed by only 3 at the half.

Providence would open up a 12 point lead less than midway through the second half, but the Pioneers refused to go away pulling back to within 3 with under 5 minutes to go.

But Providence would hold off the visitors to improve to (11-2) on the season.

Sophomore Vincent Council finished with 16 points and 5 assists. However he did turn the ball over 7 times.

Bilal Dixon had 11 points and 4 rebounds while Kadeem Batts chipped in with 9 points and 7 boards.

After taking care of business against a relatively soft non-conference schedule, the Friars will have to deal with tough competition from here on out as they begin their 18-game regular season Big East schedule next Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome against 5th-ranked Syracuse. That game will start at 9pm and will be televised on ESPNU.
