Thursday, February 03, 2011

Marshon Brooks 24 points and 17 rebounds lead Providence over South Florida 68-63 on Wednesday night for the Friars 3rd consecutive win at home.

{image_}Following a close first half, the Friars started the second half on a 14-2 run. The bulls would fight back and keep it close after going on an 11-2 run of their own tying the game at 58 with just fewer than 4 minutes to go.

Providence senior captain, Marshon Brooks sparked life back into The Friars in the final minutes of the second half. Brooks drained a 3 to give them the lead, and came back down with a dunk giving the Friars the momentum needed to finish out the game. Brooks scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half.

South Florida’s Jawanza Poland finished the game with a team high of 20 points, and 4 assists. Florida continues to struggle on the road, losing its 6 consecutive road loss in the Big East. South Florida currently is 8-15 overall 2-8 in the Big East. They face a big challenge in their next game against #17 ranked Syracuse at home.

The Friars are now 14-9 overall, and 3-7 in the Big East and face two Big East powerhouses on the road at #14 Georgetown and #7 Connecticut.
