Red Sox Leave 10 Men on Base, Fall 3-2 to Oakland in 10 Innings
Saturday, May 20, 2017
The loss comes despite another quality outing from pitcher Chris Sale. He struck out 10 batters in the game, while giving up two runs in seven innings pitched, picking up a no decision. He has now struck out at least 10 batters in eight straight games, tying a major league record.
Boston falls to 21-20 on the season and have lost the first two games of the series.
Oakland Walks Off
With the game tied at 2, Oakland’s Mark Canha hit a leadoff home run off Boston’s Heath Hembree in the 10th inning to give the Oakland A’s a 3-2 win.
Boston had held a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning following a two run home run by Mitch Moreland, before the A’s would get one run in the fifth and one run in the sixth to tie the game.
Missed Opportunities
The Red Sox had plenty of opportunities to score in the game, none better then in the top of the 5th inning.
Leading 2-0, the Red Sox loaded the bases with two outs and Hanley Ramirez at the plate. Ramirez would ground out to third to end the inning.
Boston also got lead off doubles in three different innings in the game, but were unable to score a run.
Series Continues
The third game of the four game series is set to take place on Saturday, May 20 at 4:05 p.m.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Drew Pomeranz against Oakland’s Sean Manaea.
