Red Sox Prospect Henry Owens Makes MLB Debut Tonight Against Yankees

Tuesday, August 04, 2015

With the Boston Red Sox placing struggling starter Rick Porcello on the 15-day disabled list, the team has decided to promote pitching prospect Henry Owens and give him his first MLB start against the rival New York Yankees tonight.

Owens, 23, owns a 3.16 ERA in more than 122 innings this year for the Pawtucket Red Sox. He has a 7.6 K/9 and has issued 4.1 walks per nine innings.

According to mlbtraderumors.com, Owens rated highly on preseason top-100 prospect lists from MLB.com (19th), ESPN’s Keith Law (20th) and Baseball America (44th).

The Red Sox lost on Sunday night to the Tampa Bay Rays following a three-game winning streak. They had an off-day on Monday.

The Yankees currently lead the AL East by six games over the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox are 13 games out of first place.
