Red Sox Report: The Joke Continues!
Thursday, September 22, 2011
They don’t deserve it! They don’t deserve a spot in the postseason.
The 2011 Boston Red Sox look like anything but a playoff team after dropping 3 of 4 at home to the pitiful Baltimore Orioles. That wrapped up a dreadful 10-game home stand where Boston went 3-7.
That’s 14 losses in the last 18 games for the Red Sox who are doing everything in their power to not make it to the postseason.
What’s wrong with this team? It would be much easier to answer the question: what’s right with this team?
The starting pitching has been horrible. The bullpen has blown many of the few late leads they have had this month. The hitting has been sporadic at best and non-existent late in games and in the clutch. The defense has been horrible too. Other than that, it’s been great!
Why is this happening? Your guess is as good as mine. Is this team choking late in the season? Possibly. Have they quit on their manager and themselves? That’s possible too. Are they coincidentally all in a funk at the same time? Could be. Whatever it is, it has led to some ugly and frustrating baseball of late.
Much of Red Sox Nation is now questioning whether or not they even want this team to make it to the playoffs.
There is some good news and that is that the Red Sox will not lose on Thursday. That’s only because they have the day off. Although, the way things have been going of late, you wonder if they might find a way to lose even without playing.
The Boston Dead Sox, The Bad News Bears, call them whatever you want. What’s clear is that this team is an embarrassment given the money spent on player payroll. Injuries or no injuries, what we have witnessed in the month of September is a joke.
