Red Sox Report: Welcome Back Jacoby!
Wednesday, August 24, 2011
It looks like Jacoby Ellsbury’s back is okay.
The Red Sox CF was back in his familiar lead-off spot in Tuesday night in Texas after missing 3 games due to a back contusion.
Ellsbury did a little bit of everything Tuesday night. He had a hit, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. He also made a great running catch in the gap in left-center off of the bat of Ian kinsler in the bottom of the 5th.
With the way that he is playing this season, having Ellsbury back in the line-up makes a world of difference for the Sox.
-It was also nice to see the bat of Adrian Gonzalez come back to life Tuesday night. While Gonzo’s batting average (.343 heading into play Tuesday night) remains the best in all of baseball, his power numbers have died down as of late. Gonzalez ripped not one, but two homeruns against the Rangers Tuesday night. He hit a 2-run shot in the first to put the Sox up 2-0 and belted a solo shot in the 4th putting Boston up 7-3. He now has 20 homeruns on the year and a team-best 97 RBI.
-Carl Crawford remained 7th in the Boston line-up Tuesday even with Jacoby Ellsbury back. Rookie Ryan Lavarnway was moved down to 8th in the order.
-David Ortiz could return to the Boston line-up Wednesday in Texas if the team’s training staff gives him the okay. Big Papi ran full speed (which isn’t very fast) before the game and said that he felt fine. Ortiz is recovering from bursitis in his right heel.
-John Lackey (12-9) wasn’t horrible Tuesday night. The Sox starter went 6 2/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs. He walked 3 and struck out 5. Lackey also gave up a homerun to Josh Hamilton in the 5th. Most importantly, Lackey brought his ERA back under 6.00 (now 5.98) for the first time since April 30th.
