Red Sox Update:  Beckett is Clueless

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Absolutely clueless! That would be the best way to describe Josh Beckett (aka The Texas Twit). Or, to put it in terms which Beckett can relate to, he’s five beers short of a six-pack.

While most of Red Sox Nation awaits some type of formal apology from Beckett for his role as ringleader of the Beer & Chicken Brigade, the Red Sox pitcher instead wants you to believe that he is the victim in all of this.

Beckett’s comments to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford which were detailed here in Monday’s Red Sox Report show that he still has absolutely no remorse for his actions which help lead to the demise of his team in 2011. Furthermore, he is enraged at the idea that one of his teammates had the audacity to go public about his lack of commitment to the team. He wants us to believe that the snitch is the real criminal in all of this.

Using Beckett’s twisted logic, the eyewitness to a murder who turns the killer into authorities is more guilty than the person who actually committed the crime. Is that about it, Josh?

Josh Beckett’s actions both last year and now this spring are doing nothing to help many sports fans overcome the idea that the athletes they root for are nothing but overpaid, egotistical nitwits who have a complete sense of entitlement.

One of the other things that is apparently sticking in The Texas Twit’s filthy, money-grubbing craw is the fact that he believes his wife’s pregnancy was a distraction for him last season and one that he won’t apologize for. In his own words, “if somebody reads this or somebody thinks I’m wrong, they can go [expletive] themselves.”

Great! That was handled well.

Correct me if I’m wrong Red Sox fans. Did any fan or member of the media suggest that Beckett or any man shouldn’t put family first? As your fellow Texan Roger Clemens would say, maybe you misremembered what went on last season.

But, since we’re on the subject Josh, this may come as a shock to you but many of us are parents too!

We worked when our wives were pregnant. It’s called compartmentalization. While family does, indeed, come first, work is also important. And we all can’t simply go into the tank just because we’re expecting a newborn.

And Josh, unlike you, most of us don’t make millions of dollars AND get to go away for weeks at a time and get a good night’s sleep in luxurious hotel rooms when our baby comes home from the hospital.

But we’re being too hard on you, right?

Genetics have a lot to do with our make-up. For Beckett’s kid’s sake, I hope that his daughter has her mother’s brains and not his.

Still, as dumb as his actions have been, Beckett could literally put all of this behind him and be forgiven if he just said those two magical words, “I’m sorry!” If he could just own up to the fact that what he did was wrong and pretend to be remorseful for it, this would all go away.

But something tells me that his ego is too big and his brain is too small to comprehend this.
