Revolution Keep Playoff Hopes Alive, Play Chicago to 2-2 Draw

The New England Revolution kept their playoff hopes alive on Saturday night, earning a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Fire.

The tie leaves the Revs five points behind the Montreal Impact for the sixth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a  game in hand.

“In every single game, we have the opportunity to win the game. In every single game, we’re creating a lot of chances or enough chances to win games. Montreal—we have a game less than them and we play them in the last game of the season. D.C. United will have to keep winning out and I’m sure, as the way MLS works, teams stumble in groups of games,” said Revolution head coach Brad Friedel after the game.

The tie leaves the Revs with a record of 8-10-11 overall.

Revs Earn Tie With Chicago

After New England’s Michael Mancienne got an own goal in the 67th minute to give Chicago a 2-1 lead, the Revolution rallied to tie the game.

In the 70th minute, New England’s Cristian Penilla found the back of the net to tie the game at two.

Penilla's equalizing goal gave New England two 10-goal scorers for the second straight year, and the fifth time in club history.

Both teams would have opportunities in the final minutes but were not able to score.

Next Up

The Revolution return to action on Saturday, September 29 when they visit Toronto FC.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
