Rhody rallies past Fordham

A second-half surge by an unlikely hero gave the Rams a much-needed win Wednesday in conference play.

Nikola Malesevic scored 16 of his game-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shiiting in the second half as Rhode Island rallied for a 75-72 win over Fordham at the Ryan Center.

Rhode Island (14-8, 5-3 Atlantic 10) trailed by as many as six in the opening half and trailed by three at the break before heating up in the second half. Rhode Island shot 66 percent from 3-point range in the second half and opened with an 11-2 run to take control of the game.

Delroy James scored 17 points for Rhode Island and Marquis Jones added 16. Akeem Richmond chipped in with 10 points. Rhode Island has won six of its last eight games and is now 8-2 at home this season.

Alberto Estwick and Chris Gaston led Fordham (6-14, 0-8 A-10) with 18 points apiece. Rhode Island will return to action Saturday afternoon at Temple beginning at 2 on ESPN2.
