Scott Cordischi On Sports: Ledo Shuffle

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

That Ricky Ledo may not be coming to Providence College after all should not come as a shock to anyone. The talented guard has apparently been telling his friends for a couple of weeks that he is not committed to PC despite the verbal commitment he made to Keno Davis and the Friars over a month ago.

The real question is: is Ledo academically fit to be admitted to PC? The Rhode Island native is now attending his fourth high school in the last few years and it’s not because his family is constantly relocating. We all understand the business of big time college basketball and lengths that colleges and universities will go to in order to admit star athletes. Still, you just have to wonder, where do they draw the line?

-Any shot URI had of making significant noise in the A-10 this season may have gone down in Amherst with Orion Outerbridge Sunday afternoon.

-Don’t look now, but Tim O’Shea’s Bryant Bulldogs are (5-5) in the Northeast Conference. Now that’s progress!

-Tiger’s performance at Torrey Pines has everyone wondering whether or not he will ever be the dominant PGA Tour golfer he once was.

-The Celtics performance against the Lakers Sunday in L.A. was about as good as it gets.

-And let’s not forget the Bruins and Patrice Bergeron who have been playing well of late with Bergeron getting named player of the month for January in the NHL.

-From Brown to the Browns. Former Brown University football player and coach Mark Whipple has been named the new quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns.

-Larry Bird and Kevin McHale may have been great players but their work as executives in the NBA leaves a lot to be desired.

-The Brett Favre spoof on the LeBron “what should I do?” commercial on Youtube is hilarious if you haven’t already seen it!

-I have no idea what type of money Logan Mankins will be looking for in free agency, but the Patriots offensive line is a hell of a lot better when he’s a part of it.

-Media day before the Super Bowl is an exercise in idiocy.

-My money’s on Bud Light having among the funniest and most memorable commercials on Super Bowl Sunday.

-Louisville’s Peyton Siva is fun to watch.

-Somebody please throw Syracuse a life preserver. My Orange are drowning!

-This is not a good year for the ACC which struggled in football and has only one ranked team – Duke – in the top 25 in men’s basketball. That’s the same Duke team that got smacked by St. John’s who is in 11th place in the Big East.

-And the Pac-10 stinks for the second year in a row in case you’re wondering.

-I like Steven Tyler on American Idol. And J-Lo’s not exactly hard on the eyes, which is nice.

-Rick Barnes recruits tough kids and gets them to play hard, rebound and defend. That’s why he won at Providence and Clemson and continues to win at Texas.

-Harvard is the only team that has not won an Ivy League men’s basketball championship since competition began in that conference back in 1956. This year, under Tommy Amaker, the Crimson may have their best shot ever to put an end to that streak of futility.

-We need more snow here in New England like the competitors on The Biggest Loser need another box of Twinkies.
