Scott Cordischi On Sports: Moss Back To The Patriots?

Thursday, September 08, 2011

Are you ready for some football? Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!

The 2011 NFL season kicks off tonight with a terrific match-up between the last two Super Bowl champions. The defending champs – the Green Bay Packers will host the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field.

Patriots’ fans will have to wait until Monday night to see their team kick off the season in Miami. It will be the first game of the season-opening Monday night double header starting at 7pm.

What will be interesting to watch is how many teams try to beat the Patriots the way that the Giants, Ravens, Jets and, most recently, Lions have. That is to say, by getting physical up front, taking away the outside receivers and making Tom Brady uncomfortable in the pocket. That may be easier said than done for a lot of teams including Miami. However, if their opponents are successful in doing this, it will be interesting to see how New England responds. A strong running game would be a good place to start.

-A lot of Patriots’ fans are wondering if it will be Chad Ocho Cinco or Chad Ocho Stinko that we will see in New England this year.

-Randy Moss back with the Patriots for a second go-around? Why not?

-The again, Brady said that he would welcome his return. Would Bill Belichick?

-NFL dictator Roger Goodell just can’t pass up an opportunity to let the whole world know how tough he is. Did he really need to say publicly Tuesday that he would have punished Ohio State coach Jim Tressel had the Indianapolis Colts not done so already?

-Should we just crown the Yankees A.L. East champs now?

-Bill Belichick did know what he was doing when he released both James Sanders and Brandon Merriweather, right?

-Watching just one episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor Pad” has to bring the average IQ down by at least 100 points.

-If you haven’t seen what the soon to be released i-phone 5 can do, go to youtube.com and type in i-phone 5 and check out the 60 second video. It’s incredible!

-The next time somebody tells me that they are upset about the NBA lockout, it will be the first.

-The fact that the Bruins’ Marc Savard will miss the upcoming season and that his career is likely over with is sad. It’s also a commentary on the severity of concussions and their lasting effects.

-It’s also an indictment on the Penguins’ cheap-shot artist Matt Cooke whose hit effectively put an end to the career of a very talented player.

-Did you see where Washington Nationals pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg pitched 5 innings of 2-hit shutout baseball in his return from Tommy John surgery Tuesday night?

-Why couldn’t it have been John Lackey who sprained his ankle?

-There is no way that the Yankees will let CC Sabathia hit the free agent market at the end of this season.

-As great as Ed Cooley and his staff have done recruiting thus far, let’s not forget that this year’s PC team will likely struggle in the Big East.

-Then again, you can bet that they will expend a lot more effort on the defensive end of the floor this season than they did in any of Keno Davis’ 3 years here.

-As a Syracuse alumnus, I’ll be the first to admit that the Big East conference is extremely weak in the sport of football again this year.

-Speaking of college football, what’s up with some of these new uniforms? Georgia, Boise State, Maryland. Ugly, ugly, ugly!

-Darius Butler, we hardly knew you.
