Scott Cordischi On Sports: Randy Moss a NY Jet?

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

The Bruins and Canadiens will drop the puck in game 1 of their playoff series tomorrow night at the TD Garden while the Celtics prepare for their opening round playoff series with the New York Knicks which will begin next week.

Normally first round playoff series aren’t a lot to get excited about but in this case, they are!

Boston-Montreal speaks for itself. If not the greatest rivalry in the NHL, it has to rank in the top 2 or 3. Celtics-Knicks doesn’t have nearly the history or tradition of Bruins-Canadiens, but it is Boston vs. New York. It is also a series that features some of the NBA’s greatest stars with Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony leading the way for the Knicks against Boston’s “Big 4.”

What makes the Celts-Knicks match-up even more intriguing is that the winner will likely face the Miami Heat in the next round of the playoffs.

Buckle your seatbelts Boston sports fans, we should be in for a heck of a ride!

-If the Red Sox offense continues on its anemic pace, they may be pictured on the side of a milk carton in a grocery store near you.

-The Jets might be interested in Randy Moss? I guess if you can’t beat Darelle Revis, you may as well join him.

-A judge can force NFL owners and players to sit down in mediation but they can’t force them to make a deal.

-Speaking of that, the NFL released its preseason schedule yesterday. The official release from the league should have read, “these are the dates and times for the preseason games that we probably won’t play this summer.”

-Let me get this straight. The Boston Red Sox WON the Diasuke Matsuzaka sweepstakes? What did the losers get?

-I know the answer to that: a lot more yen to spend on players that can actually help their teams.

-The Celtics-Knicks series hasn’t even started and I’m already sick of Spike Lee.

-The fact that authorities in Montreal are still saying that the investigation into Zdeno Chara’s hit on Max Pacioretty is still open is unconscionable.

-Those close to the UConn men’s basketball program are speculating that if Jim Calhoun decides not to return to coach the Huskies next season, that he will wait until September to make his announcement to make it easier for assistant Kevin Ollie to be his successor.

-Harvard men’s basketball coach Tommy Amaker turned down Miami to remain on as the Crimson’s head coach.

-The Red Sox have never been able to adequately replace Johnny Damon who was such a valuable lead-off hitter in his four years with Boston.

-NFL owners want us to believe that their arrangement with the players is a partnership yet they are unwilling to open their financial book to the players. Doesn’t sound like much of a partnership to me.

-Not that I think the owners should open their books to the players. They are the business owners who took the risk when purchasing their franchises, they shouldn’t have to open their books to their employees.

-What’s taking the Barry Bonds jury so long to deliberate? As his head and homerun total grew his testicles reportedly shrank. If that’s not an open and shut case for steroid use I don’t know what is!
