The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. That’s the lesson that Randy Moss learned after he essentially forced the Patriots to trade him one month ago. Moss wanted a new contract. The Patriots weren’t prepared to give him one. New England traded him to Minnesota. After 4 games in a Vikings uniform, the team cut him.

Many of Moss’ former teammates call him very smart. But it appears that it was his stupidity that got the best of him this time.

We assume that Moss’ agenda from day one this season was to get a new contract. After all, at age 33, this would have likely been his last chance at a big pay day.

Moss let us know about his disappointment regarding his contract in his shocking press conference following the team’s season-opening win over Cincinnati. That, along with other episodes of petulance over the past few months, ultimately led to the Patriots decision to trade him which he was apparently happy about.

Then, after four short weeks in Minnesota, Moss realized that he may have made a mistake by shooting his way out of town. The problem is, he compounded his first mistake with yet another.

Moss had to know that what he said following Sunday’s game was not going to sit well with his head coach Brad Childress and the Vikings organization yet he said it anyway. Now he is a member of the Tennessee Titans and is unlikely to get that final big money deal he’s been looking for when this season is over with.

His best move to cash in on a new multi-year deal would have been to keep his mouth shut and put up big numbers for one more season here in New England with one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time throwing him the ball. Too late! Smooth move, Ex-Lax.

-Not that anyone cares in these parts, but congratulations to the San Francisco Giants for winning the 2010 World Series.

-Did anyone even realize that Logan Mankins was gone?

-Tim Thomas’ 0.5 goals against average is almost as low as John Belushi’s (aka Mr. Blutarski) grade point average at Faber College in “Animal House.”

-Edgar Renteria is your World Series MVP. Why can’t the Red Sox get players like that?

-That beeping sound you hear is the Yankees backing up the Brinks truck to free agent pitcher Cliff Lee’s front door.

-Sadly, the PC Friars men’s basketball team may struggle to finish 13th in the 16-team Big East where the preseason poll predicted them to finish.

-Speaking of college basketball, Jim Baron has done a GREAT job building a respectable and competitive program down at URI. The one and only thing missing is the thing that fans want the most: a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

-With his lanky frame and the movement on all of his pitches, Giants ace Tim Lincecum reminds me a little of Pedro Martinez.

-Minus the surfer-dude look, of course.

-The more things change, the more they stay the same when it comes to politics in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

-Do we still need to watch closely when Belichick and Mangini meet to shake hands after Sunday’s game in Cleveland?

-Although he’d never say so, Wes Welker may be the one Patriot who misses Randy Moss the most.

-Rajon Rondo averaged 17 assists per game in the first four games of the season. Think about that for a moment.

-If Moss can just shut up and play football, he can really help Tennessee which has lost their top WR Kenny Britt to a hamstring injury.

-Wade Phillips is the NFL’s version of “dead man walking.”

-Every time I see the Patriots throw-back uniforms I have to stop and think about which ones I like better – the new ones or the old ones?

-LeBron James finally admitted that, if he had to do it all over again, he would have handled his offseason move differently.

-After starting the season (0-3) at home and (4-0) on the road, the Miami Dolphins should petition the league to play all of their games away from Sun Life Stadium.

-This just in: Charlie Weiss and Romeo Crennel can still coach.

-We knew that Tiger Woods couldn’t remain #1 in the world forever. But did anyone think that he would lose that top-ranking this soon?

-Randy Moss’ second stint in Minnesota was shorter than Larry King’s seven marriages.
