What a night for Boston sports fans Monday night! It was a Beantown trifecta with the Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox all picking up victories. Not that anyone was watching the Red Sox. How could you? All eyes were glued on the Bruins/Flyers game 2 which started at 7pm. In between periods and after it was over it was on to the Celts/Cavs game 2 of their playoff series. The Red Sox? They had what could be their best offensive output of the season scoring 17 runs against the Angels at Fenway with virtually nobody watching.
-Give me CC Sabathia and Roy Halladay for the AL and NL Cy Young awards in 2010.
-With the performance of Tuukka Rask this year, it’s hard to believe that his back-up Tim Thomas is the reigning Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s top goaltender.
-Good luck to Lars Tiffany and the Brown men’s lacrosse team this weekend. They will be participating in a 4-team playoff in Ithaca, New York for the Ivy League lacrosse championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
-Memo to Celtics fans accusing LeBron James of faking his elbow injury: Paul Pierce is one of the biggest drama queens when he gets banged up on the floor.
-If the point guard match-up in the Celts/Cavs series were a prize fight it would be a first round TKO for Rajon Rondo over Mo Williams.
-Congrats to Brown’s Buddy Farnham for signing with the Patriots after an impressive showing at rookie mini-camp. Don’t be surprised if Farnham makes it onto an NFL roster.
-Lost in the Tim Welsh resignation Monday is what happens to his assistant coaches? Good guys Steve DeMeo, Mo Cassera and Alan Griffin are all in limbo.
-If Jeremy Kapstein becomes Rhode Island’s next Lt. Governor does that mean we won’t see him with his headphones on behind home plate at Fenway any longer?
-Something tells me that Tiger Woods’ struggles at Quail Hollow last week were the aberration, not the norm.
-Granted the Bruins had all they could do just to get into the playoffs, but the Celtics reaching the Eastern Conference Finals by going through the Cavs would be more impressive than the Bruins ousting Philadelphia to advance to their conference finals.
-Whatever happen to Dice-K’s alleged unhittable “gyro” ball?
-If you like to play golf, this has been a great spring weather-wise here in southern New England.
-Well wishes to 2004 Red Sox here Dave Roberts who is being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
-No one is happier about the Bruins and Celtics stealing the sports headlines this spring than the Red Sox. If that were not the case, the Orioles sweep of Boston last weekend would be getting a lot more attention in these parts.
