Shane Keddy Makes Mark at Assumption

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Shane Keddy finished an impressive college baseball career at Assumption.

Former Worcester Tech baseball standout Shane Keddy is leaving behind quite the legacy at Assumption College. Keddy, who was named to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette Super Team in his junior and senior years at Worcester Tech, has continued his success on the field for four years at Assumption.

Keddy made an impact right away at Assumption, batting .304 in his freshman season, while splitting time between second base, third base, and shortstop. For his efforts, Keddy was named to the Northeast-10 Conference all-rookie team.

After driving in 27 base runners during his sophomore season, Keddy was named a captain heading into his junior season and was poised to have a monster year.

There was no one better than Keddy during his junior season. He hit a league-best .389, and also had 18 doubles, two home runs, drew 15 walks, stole five bases, and drove in 26 runs. Keddy was named Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference, American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Second Team, Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-Region Second Team, and 2012 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region Second Team.

As a senior captain this past season, Keddy was looking to end his career on a good note, and he did, hitting .307 and becoming the eleventh player in program history to reach the 200 hit plateau for his career. Leading his team to a sixth place finish in the Northeast-10's Southwest Division and just missing a playoff berth, Keddy continued to show why he was one of the best players in the league. He led his team with a .396 on-base percentage, 29 runs batted in, and 34 runs scored. Keddy also compiled 11 doubles, four triples, and three home runs, en route to being name Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week once and receiving Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference on the season.

The Greyhounds will now face the task of replacing Keddy in the infield going forward. However, with the success that Keddy encountered in his career, that may not be an easy task.
