The King Has Been Dethroned!

Friday, May 14, 2010

Bring on the Orlando Magic!  King James has been dethroned meaning the Celtics are off to the Eastern Conference Finals.  Before we get there, some thoughts on the Celts/Cavs series which certainly had its share of story lines.

-LeBron James may have been the best player on the floor, but the Celtics had the next four in Garnett, Pierce, Allen and Rondo.

-Speaking of Rajon Rondo, he is quickly establishing himself as one of the top point guards in the NBA.

-Watching Shaquille O’Neal shoot free throws is painful.

-If game 5 was LeBron’s last game in Cleveland as a Cavalier, it wasn’t a great way to go out.

-In a coaching mismatch, Mike Brown plays checkers while Doc Rivers plays chess.

-After watching an injured and aging Kevin Garnett struggle through the regular season, we saw the old KG perform in this series.

-LeBron James only weakness is his average jump shot and the Celtics knew it.

-Ditto for Rajon Rondo whom the Cavs sagged on defensively.  Although his “j” has improved.

-When Ray Allen is knocking down his “3’s” the Celtics are very tough to beat.

-Paul Pierce was frustrated by LeBron James on both ends of the floor preventing the Celtics star from having a great series.  Let’s see how he responds against Orlando.

-Home court advantage?  The Celts won 2 in Cleveland and the Cavs won once in Boston.

-Does anyone really think that LeBron will return to Cleveland next year?

-Yes, James had a subpar game 5 but the way that the fans and media hammered the guy was unbelievable!  I guess the best player in the NBA isn’t entitled to having even one bad game.

-Shaq’s whole game is trying to muscle his way down low on his defender who tries to helplessly hold his position.  Technically it’s an offensive foul but it has never been called on the big fella.

-And there’s a reason for that.  NBA officiating is the worst!  Even without Tim Donaghy fixing games.

-I think it’s about time that we rename the “Big Three” the “Big Four.”

-The Cavs are a better team with Varejao on the floor than they are with Shaq.

-Memo to Mo Williams: too little, too late!

-What would the odds have been before the series started that Rajon Rondo would out perform LeBron James?

-Sucks to be a Cleveland sports fan, doesn’t it?

-Maybe LeBron James was right a few months ago when he suggested that the Celtics were simply saving their energy for the postseason.
