Three WPI Hoop Players Named All-Conference

WPI's men's basketball team had three players named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's All-Conference team.

Senior Matt Carr was named to the MIT-laden First Team while Marco Coppola was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and to the Second Team, along with Senior Jamie Shannon.

Carr's selection for first team was a repeat of last year. The center was in the top four in NEWMAC in points (16.4 per game), rebounds (8.2 per game), field-goal percentage (54.6%), free throw percentage (76.6%) and blocks (1.8). He is also a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, which is given to outstanding basketball players who also excel academically and contribute with community service. Carr had seven double-doubles this season.

Coppola's 14.4 points per game led all NEWMAC freshman. A guard, Coppola was sixth in the conference in assists with 3.1 per game.

A point guard, Shannon led the Engineers in assists with 3.4 per game. In addition to his team-leading 31.4 minutes per game, Shannon also made 75.4% of his free throws.
WPI, who was 21-7, is the top seed in the ECAC New England Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. They have have a first round bye and WPI's Harrington Auditorium will play host to the semifinal and championship games this weekend.

Additionally, Clark University won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.
